Finals, Finals, What Comes After The End??

Today in Bible Study we ended our year-long study of the Book of Revelation. The funny part is, Revelation literally tells us what comes after The End. I know that that sounds like a paradoxical statement, but it's true. John describes the New Jerusalem after the End of Time, and thus he describes what comes after The End. In this (and every) Advent season, we both anticipate the birth of Jesus (which has already happened) and anticipate his coming a second time at The End.

All this talk about ending makes me wonder about the derivation of the word "finals." I mean, the word just seems so, well, final. I know that finals are given at the end of a course, but I feel like that's a silly way to describe them. It makes it sound like finals are the final ending of your learning that subject area, which is just not true. So, if finals aren't so final, what comes after The End?

Perhaps I'm just so used to analyzing everything during finals that it's officially gone to my brain.
