Advent and Finals Battle it Out... and Advent is Slowly Taking the Lead.

OK, who's bright idea was it to have Advent and finals occur at the same time?? I mean, really. I've got papers and exams coming out of my ears while balancing holiday parties, normal weekly events at church, and about a million hymn sings and concerts (which is probably why my voice is leaving my vocal chords).

When they decided on the church calendar back in the day, they should've consulted Theology students first. Seriously. They're the ones under the most pressure when finals and Advent coincide.

And now that I'm thinking about it, the same thing happens with Easter. Granted, Easter occurs at different times each year, but it's the same type of thing -- a huge church feast at the time of the semester when students are up all night and taking coffee intravenously while frantically typing and/or memorizing facts.

I'm thinking it's a conspiracy.

  • Personally, whenever I feel a conflict like this one, I just go lie down until it all blows over.

I don't know what all the fuss over school is asbout anyhow. I've never studied for anything a day in my life, and look at me!

  • Well, even beyond Theology, it's still an evil setup, but I'm convinced more each day that this the the professors way of feeling that they are truly "giving" in the spirit of the holidays... Notice, I'm not in agreement with the professors on their slanted view on "giving", but it sure does seem like that's at hand...
Anyhow, it will all work out, papers/massive exams vs socialing always seems to find a balance for us all in the end, and this madness will be over before we all know it...

  • It will not "all work out." It will not be over before you know it.

Life is long and hard. When it is no longer school it will be something else. None of this will ever end.

In fact, this is just the beginning. The day will come when you will look back on your school years and wish you had it that easy again.

  • First of all, when I make a statement or an observation, I usually don't base it one just what happened to me, I base it on the general population I know around me, so maybe I make a bogus call, but I have yet to hear anyone who's outside of academia even as far as 5 years removed say they would want to be back at school, which tells me that life must be better outside, and usually I put better and easier together. Now, maybe that doesn't hold true for all, but I have to believe there's a relative magnitude of evidence that suggests that quite a bit of what's done in academia stays in academia as well.
Anyhow, I think it's relatively apparent that either circumstances or experiences are completely different, or someone thinks working the upwards of 30-35 hours a week and taking full loads of grad classes is easier than going to work for 40-50 hours per week and having the rest of the time off to themselves (which is what most of my fellow graduates from Clarkson have had because only a select few chose to pursue a Masters after).
